SureLATCH Technology FAQS
What is LATCH?
- LATCH, which stands for “Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren”, is designed to make proper car seat installation easier.
- LATCH is standard in all cars manufactured after September 1, 2002, and eliminates the need for the use of passenger seatbelts to secure the car seats.
- The LATCH system has two permanent anchors at the base of vehicle’s rear seats and a top anchor behind each seating position in all vehicles. These anchors are specifically designed for car seat tethers and hooks.
Is SureLATCH safer than using the seatbelts for installation?
Not necessarily. A child car seat PROPERLY installed with a seatbelt should be as safe as one properly installed with LATCH. LATCH should make it easier to get a proper installation. Evenflo’s SureLATCH technology automatically retracts when you push down or back on your seat to create a super-snug fit by utilizing your vehicles LATCH system.
Can I still use a Symphony65™ all-in-one car seat in a vehicle that does not have LATCH?
Yes. Symphony65™ car seat is compatible with vehicle seat belt installations. View the installation video for Symphony™ 65 using the vehicle seat belts.
I heard the middle seat is safest, but our vehicle only has LATCH on the outside, what should I do?
When utilizing the internal harness, it is recommended that you first try installing with the seatbelt in the center if it (1) fits well and (2) is permitted by the car seat and vehicle owner's manuals.
Can I use top tethers or LATCH with a Symphony65™ car seat while it is in booster seat mode?
Yes, and the booster seat should always be secured with the SureLatch connectors or vehicle seat belt when not occupied. An unsecured booster seat can fly into and injure other occupants in the event of a crash.
Can I use both SureLATCH and the seatbelt?
Other than when the child car seat is being used in booster mode, no. Only one or the other should be used when utilizing the internal harness and you should generally use the one that provides the best fit in your vehicle. Always consult the vehicle owner’s for approved locations before installing any car seat in your vehicle.
Can I use SureLATCH on a child car seat that isn’t a Symphony™?
No, the SureLATCH is only designed and tested for the Symphony car seat.
Is there a weight limit restriction on when to discontinue the use of SureLATCH™?
Yes, install the Symphony65™ child car seat with a vehicle seat belt (NOT SureLATCH connectors) when using the restraint’s harness straps to secure a child who weights more than 48lbs (21.7kg).
