5 Ideas for Fun-Filled Father's Day Activities the Whole Family can Enjoy

Short on Father’s Day gift ideas for that new dad, dad with a toddler or older child? Coming up with something unique can certainly be a challenge, but maybe we can help! How about an experience that brings the whole family together so he can really feel the love? Below are five ideas for fun Father’s Day activities that Dad and everyone else can enjoy.

  1. Destination Picnic: Does Dad have a favorite outdoor spot — a National Park or a city park, a beach, a special hangout along a river, or perhaps a mountaintop view? Consider packing up a yummy brunch or lunch and surprising him with a picnic at his ideal getaway.
  2. Wildlife Spotting: If your local zoo tends to be crowded (always a winner with kids), head with Dad to your local botanic garden or Audubon Society nature center to spy birds and pollinators in their natural setting. Bring binoculars and start a list of what you see — you can add to it over the years. There’s so much blooming this time of year, you’re bound to see plenty!
  3. Bike or Hike: Do you have a local bike path or a nearby short hike the whole family can enjoy? Plan a little adventure from here to there and back again. Remember to bring water bottles and snacks! We know for a fact that Dads love snacks — how’s that for a Father’s Day activity idea?!
  4. Family Glamping: You don’t have to go far to experience the great outdoors! Trick out your own backyard with a tent or two, go as glam with the bedding as you dare, and stylize your personal campground as an extra-special getaway for the whole family, pets and all. Don’t forget to cook s’mores for Dad over the firepit!

If the weather’s not great for heading outdoors:

  1. Game Day: No, we’re not talking football. A drizzly day is the perfect excuse to gather for some spirited board game competition! Drag out the family favorites and play them all. Have pizza delivered. And maybe let Dad win — just once.
