Terrible Sliding Mechansim
"I do not recommend this gate. The only positive thing about it is that it matches our banisters perfectly. However, it fails to perform basic functions. The sliding mechanism is poorly designed so that the clips that hold the two pieces together move and prevent the gate from sliding open. I need two hands to slide it side to side, which renders it essentially unusable. I cannot constantly be setting down my baby to unlock this gate while standing on the stairs. Also, we precisely measured to mount it, and the latch still does not line up perfectly with where the gate needs to enter."

"I like that it physically anchors to both walls unlike friction gates. BUT , it's difficult to latch and unlatch and although I installed it dead level, when unlatched, the open end is a couple of inches lower than the hinged end. I use it to keep my yellow lab corralled in the mudroom when we have guests. It works, but it could work a lot better with some simple improvements."

"I installed this a a doorway between our mudroom and kitchen to keep the dog in the mudroom where she sleeps at night and when we are away for a few hours. It does the job. Disregard the negative comments about this gate. If you follow the instructions and install it correctly, it is sturdy and works fine. This is a high quality gate that is made well."

- Many years ago (about 20) we bought an extra wide version of this gate. I now am in need of the same width and am regretting having given that one away. Will you ever make the extra wide version again? Crossing fingers.

- can it stay open if needed or does it automatically close? We want it to be open during the day so our dog can go downstairs but unsure if it will auto close etc.

- We want to install in a location with a banister on one side and drywall on the other. Unfortunately, there is no stud located where we would like to install it. My husband is proposing a toggle bolt. Would that work?
